SMM, July 6 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- (Albemarle), a major U.S. manufacturer of lithium battery chemicals, announced the opening of the Battery Materials Innovation Center ((BMIC)) in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, according to media reports.
It is reported that the battery materials innovation center will be fully put into use in July 2021 and will support the research and development of Albemarle's lithium hydroxide, lithium carbonate and advanced energy storage materials platforms. Moreover, as the only manufacturer of lithium metal anodes in the United States, BMIC uses advanced lithium metal domination to increase the energy density of the battery to achieve 20 micron thick lithium foil.
Albemarle, the battery materials innovation center, provides display and related battery manufacturing capabilities to generate data for next-generation battery material designs. Using these data resources, the company can help customers provide higher performance and cost-effective batteries to the electric vehicle market.
Even more admirable, Albemarle claims that the new materials developed in the lab will allow the performance of lithium-ion batteries to reach the next level. The shift from traditional graphite battery anodes to lithium metal has the potential to double the energy density and reduce costs by as much as 50 per cent.
