The 11th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF), with the theme of "Open Cooperation: Empowering New Quality Productive Forces and Sustainable Development," opened yesterday (June 11) at the Expo Exhibition Center. Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng attended and launched the fair.

At the opening ceremony, Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Anna Macmillan, Director of the Scotland Office of the UK Government, delivered speeches. Johann Löhn, former President and Honorary Lifetime President of the Steinbeis Foundation in Germany, and Zheng Yongnian, Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), delivered keynote speeches. National Innovation Practice Cases in Technology Trade were also released.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Chinese and foreign guests toured the exhibition halls together. Mayor Gong Zheng visited the exhibition areas of Glasgow, the overseas guest city, and Shenzhen, the domestic guest city, as well as the Zhangjiang National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone and the Yangtze River Delta National Technological Innovation Center. He also stopped by the booths of Shanghai Electric, China Merchants Energy Shipping, Cloudpick AI Technology, Shanghai Commercial Cryptography Exhibition Group, Plug and Play China, and others to inspect technological innovations in fields such as green energy, marine engineering, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine.

As an international and comprehensive exhibition in China's technology trade sector, this year's CSITF was held at the Expo Exhibition Center from June 11 to 13. The fair featured four professional technology exhibition areas and two functional areas for technology trading services and promotion activities, with a total exhibition area of 35,000 m². It brought together a batch of innovative achievements from nearly 20 countries and regions overseas as well as from China, attracting nearly a thousand exhibiting enterprises and institutions. A number of new products and technologies will make their debut at the fair. During the exhibition, three thematic day events and nearly 60 supporting activities will be held on topics such as innovation-driven development, intellectual property protection, and the promotion of technology trade.

SMM Trading Center's booth is located in the "Digital Shanghai·Chain Innovation for the Future" exhibition area. As one of the benchmark scenarios for blockchain applications in Shanghai, SMM Trading Center, leveraging the Pujiang Digital Chain blockchain infrastructure, took the lead in initiating and implementing the "Nonferrous Metals Safe Chain" project within the industry. This project connects cooperative warehouses such as SIPGL and cooperative banks like the Bank of Communications, while also introducing the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce as a regulatory node. It achieves full-chain coverage from trading, warehousing, and finance to supervision, forming a multi-party collaborative and trustworthy ecosystem. This effectively promotes the transformation and upgrading of the non-ferrous metals industry towards digitization, intelligence, and security.

Chile's Water Crisis Threatens Atacama's Copper and Lithium Mining Amid 14-Year Drought
Chile’s most pressing crisis at present is the issue of water resources. The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the driest regions in the world and also the core area for copper and lithium ore extraction. The local area has experienced a drought for as long as 14 years, and reservoir storage has fallen to only about 30%. For miners, water resources are not a secondary issue, but an indispensable key production factor in such processes as ore processing, dust suppression, and equipment cooling. The decline in ore grade has further exacerbated the predicament

Trump Adjusts Metal Tariffs, Applies 50% Rate to Consumer Prices Under Section 232, Details Unclear
US President Trump adjusted the national security tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum, and copper, lowering the tariff rates on derivative products made from these metals, streamlining compliance procedures, and preventing the declared value of imports from being understated.A senior Trump administration official said that, under a proclamation signed by Trump, the US would continue to maintain a 50% import tariff on imports of metal commodities such as steel, aluminum, and copper pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Act of 1974, but would apply this rate to the price paid by US consumers. It is currently unclear how the selling price—and the resulting tariffs—would be determined.
