SMM Report: Sodium Battery Advantages Dim as Lithium Prices Plummet, Future Prospects Remain Uncertain

[SMM Special Report: Sharp Decline in Lithium Prices Leads to Significant Reduction in Sodium Battery Advantages, Multiple Projects Face "Cold Start" in the New Year - Will Sodium Batteries Have a "Spring" in the Future?] Once when lithium prices soared to RMB 600,000 per ton, sodium-ion batteries, with their lower cost and better safety performance, also enjoyed a period of "glory". However, as lithium prices have continued to decline since the beginning of 2023, the once-popular "star of tomorrow" - sodium-ion batteries, have clearly lost their past popularity. According to SMM's calculations, the cost of sodium-ion batteries is expected to be around 0.3-0.5 yuan/Wh when mass production is achieved. If lithium prices continue to decline, the cost advantage of sodium-ion batteries will face significant threats. Nevertheless, considering the economics of sodium-ion batteries, the industry still has a consensus that the cost of sodium-ion batteries may drop sharply in the future. SMM predicts that with the completion and launch of dedicated production lines for sodium-ion batteries, and the increase in demand, the production cost of sodium batteries will rapidly decline...
