Data from the People's Bank of China showed that at the end of August, the balance of domestic and foreign currency deposits was 284.47 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10%. The balance of RMB deposits was 278.76 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%, flat with last month and down 0.8 percentage points YoY. In the first eight months, RMB deposits increased by 20.24 trillion yuan, an increase of 115.8 billion yuan YoY. In August, RMB deposits increased by 1.26 trillion yuan, a decrease of 13.2 billion yuan YoY. Among them, household deposits increased by 787.7 billion yuan, non-financial corporate deposits increased by 889 billion yuan, fiscal deposits decreased by 8.8 billion yuan, and non-banking financial institution deposits decreased by 732.2 billion yuan. At the end of August, the balance of foreign currency deposits was $795.4 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7%. Foreign currency deposits decreased by $58.5 billion in the first eight months, a decrease of US$27.2 billion YoY. Foreign currency deposits decreased by $26.4 billion in August, a decrease of $16.1 billion YoY.
