According to reports, the first mid-month assessment by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, a battery supply chain research and price reporting agency, shows that the price of lithium in China continues to rise exponentially against the backdrop of strong demand for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. Benchmark's mid-March midpoint price of battery-grade lithium carbonate ((EXW China, ≥ 99.0 Li2CO3) shows that the raw material has risen 88 per cent since the start of the year to more than $12600 a tonne, the highest level since March 2019.
The rise in the price of lithium carbonate is mainly due to the imbalance between supply and demand. Demand broke out in areas such as new energy vehicles. From a supply point of view, the shortage of mineral resources is one of the main factors leading to the rise in lithium prices this time. From the beginning of 2021 to the present, the gap between supply and demand is about 20% to 25%.
According to the theme database of the Financial Associated Press, among the relevant listed companies:
Tianqi Lithium Industry is the world's leading lithium energy core material supplier integrating upstream lithium resource reserve, development and mid-stream lithium product processing.
Ganfeng lithium industry's main products include more than 20 kinds of metal lithium (industrial grade, battery grade), lithium carbonate (battery grade), lithium chloride and so on. It is one of the professional manufacturers with the most complete range of lithium products, the longest product processing chain and the most comprehensive process technology in China.
