Recently, it is reported that the Turkish state-owned mining and chemical company Eti Maden has announced the establishment of the country's first lithium production plant in Eskishir province. The plant will produce lithium from waste liquid from the boron production process, which is expected to reduce Turkey's annual lithium imports by US $20 million (16.4 million euros).
The plant will initially produce 10 tons of lithium a year, but its annual production capacity is expected to reach nearly 600 tons in the next few years.
Lithium will be used to make parts of electric vehicles developed by Turkiye 'nin Otomobili Girisim Grubu (TOGG). TOGG was established in June 2018 by local companies Anadolu Group, BMC, Kok Group, Turkcell and Zorlu Group at the initiative of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Commodity Exchange Alliance (tob).
