[SMM Gold Flash] Gold Fields reports that South Deep in South Africa produced 80,700 ounces in the September quarter, up 5% from the preceding quarter. Tarkwa in Ghana produced 101,000 ounces, up 4% quarter on quarter. South Deep benefited from higher mining volumes and grades, while improved plant availability and utilisation supported a 5% increase in tonnes milled at Tarkwa.
Across the group, attributable gold-equivalent production declined 3% year on year to 605,000 ounces, while all-in sustaining costs increased 26% to US$1,965/oz. Higher royalties linked to gold prices, stronger producer-country currencies and increased input costs contributed to the cost pressure. Gold Fields maintained its expectation of reaching the upper end of its 2.4–2.6 million-ounce annual production guidance and retained its AISC forecast of US$1,800–2,000/oz.
