[Nasdaq 100 faces third technical correction of the year on AI returns worries]

Published: Oct 31, 2026 23:06 (GMT+8)
The Nasdaq 100 fell as much as 4.5% in intraday trading on Friday, dropping more than 10% from recent highs and facing its third technical correction of the year; the index was down about 3% for the week. Disappointing earnings from Alphabet, Amazon, Intel and ServiceNow triggered a tech sell-off, as the market reassesses AI investment returns and rising financing needs among tech firms amplify sector volatility. Strategists said investors no longer assume AI investments will inevitably generate rich returns and are focusing on return on capital and whether principal can be recovered. The last time US stocks saw three or more 10% swings within a year was 2022.

[Nvidia showcases next-gen CPO prototype named OOI]
At SEMICON West 2026 in San Francisco, Nvidia unveiled a prototype of its next-generation co-packaged optics (CPO) solution, dubbed OOI (Optics-on-Interposer). Nvidia declined to give a commercialization timeline for OOI, saying only that it has received prototype samples. Industry sources said OOI will not affect China's optical communications industry in the short to medium term, noting that Nvidia's Feynman architecture, slated for 2028, will still adopt CPO and that OOI mass production is unlikely until after 2030.
