Bulgarian steelmaker Stomana Industry, part of the Sidenor group, awarded equipment supplier Danieli a major contract on October 7, 2026, to supply new rolling mill equipment for its site in Pernik. The project includes relocating a Danieli K-Spool line from Greece to enable the production of compact rebars in coils weighing up to 3.6 tonnes, covering diameters from 8 mm to 20 mm. The capital expenditure significantly expands Stomana's domestic capability to supply higher-quality structural and special bar quality (SBQ) products across Eastern Europe. [SMM Iron Ore]

[ EUROFER Reports 18% Decline in EU Long Product Imports for H1 2026 ]
The European Steel Association (EUROFER) published finalized trade data on October 5, 2026, revealing that total EU imports of finished steel products fell by 3% year-on-year in the first half of 2026. The decline was heavily concentrated in the long products segment, which crashed by 18% overall—including a 23% plunge in rebar, a 21% drop in wire rod, and a staggering 47% collapse in heavy section imports. The volumetric decline highlights persistently weak apparent steel consumption across the bloc's construction sector, artificially shielding local mills from excess global supply. [SMM Iron Ore]

[ Worthington Steel Misses Q1 Earnings Amid High Integration Costs ]
US flat-rolled steel processor Worthington Steel presented its investor deck on October 7, 2026, following a difficult first quarter of fiscal 2027 where it missed Wall Street expectations. The company reported adjusted earnings of $0.57 per share, falling 16.2% short of the $0.68 consensus estimate, causing shares to drop 4.3% in after-hours trading to $37.45. The financial miss highlights the heavy integration costs from its transformational acquisition of Kloeckner & Co against a backdrop of persistently challenging domestic steel supply dynamics. [ Acciaierie d'Italia Processes Blast Furnace Shutdown in Taranto ]
Market reports on October 7, 2026, confirmed that Italy's Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI) is currently in the process of shutting down its blast furnace operations amid severe financial constraints. The capacity reduction is heavily constraining the availability of domestic hot-rolled coil in the Italian market, leaving Arvedi as the sole stable local supplier. Consequently, Italian domestic HRC index prices held firm at €745 per tonne, up €22.29 month-on-month as buyers struggle with limited domestic allocations. [SMM Iron Ore]
