[Tata Steel 2QFY27 Crude Steel Output Up 10% YoY to 6.21 Million Tonnes]

Published: Oct 08, 2026 10:13 (GMT+8)
Tata Steel's crude steel output hit 6.21 million tonnes in 2QFY27, up 10% y-o-y and 8% q-o-q. Deliveries rose 7% y-o-y to 5.97 million tonnes and 15% q-o-q from 5.17 million tonnes, outpacing production as Indian demand held firm and stocks cleared after planned maintenance at Kalinganagar and Meramandali in 1QFY27. The annual gain mainly reflects ramp-up of the new 5 million tpa blast furnace at Kalinganagar. Tata Steel targets 40 million tpa Indian capacity by 2030 through brownfield expansions at Jamshedpur and Neelachal Ispat Nigam, where a 4.8 million tpa project costs about 4.1 billion USD (338.7 billion INR). Risks: high European energy costs, Dutch outages, Chinese export price pressure and coking coal volatility.

[September Heavy-duty Truck Sales Up 10% MoM]
In January-September this year, cumulative sales of China's heavy-duty truck industry reached approximately 926,000 units, up about 13% YoY, with the cumulative growth rate further slowing down. The MoM increase in wholesale sales of the heavy-duty truck market in September was mainly due to seasonal changes, as transport demand improved compared with the off-season months of July-August, leading to a certain MoM increase in car purchase demand. However, the YoY decline stemmed from the interplay of multiple unfavourable factors: sluggish domestic freight demand, falling freight rates, overdrawn demand due to policies and regulations, industry destocking, a high sales base in the same period last year, and rising oil and gas prices.
