[SMM Steel] Indian HRC Prices Largely Stable; European Offer Targets Rise

Published: Oct 06, 2026 16:45 (GMT+8)
[India Export] Indian HRC price references remained largely unchanged, with the Europe-linked assessment held at 660USD/tonne FOB India. Market participants reported Indian offers above 750USD/tonne CFR Europe, with suppliers targeting 760–770USD/tonne CFR, although fresh transactions at these higher levels were not confirmed. European production difficulties supported sellers’ price expectations despite subdued buying. For Vietnam, participants cited Indian HRC indications near 550USD/tonne FOB India for December–January shipment, but said major mills were not actively offering to that market. Domestically, Mumbai HRC remained at approximately 656USD/tonne (63,000INR/tonne) EXW, excluding 18% GST. Firm input costs and restricted spot availability continued to support domestic sentiment, while buyer acceptance of higher offers remained the key test for further price gains.

[India Domestic] India’s domestic prices were mostly stable on Oct 6 with only a few prices edged up across key markets. Market activity remained moderate. Unscheduled power cuts in several regions are affecting industrial operations and reducing production. The disruptions are particularly impacting steel mills with some producers facing lower output due to limited power availability. The lower production may tighten spot supply in the steel market and may provide support to steel prices. Mandi HMS 1&2 (80:20) unchanged at 412 USD/tonne (39,700 INR/tonne) delivered Mandi. [Tata Steel Develops BIS-Certified Fire-Resistant E350 Structural Steel]
Tata Steel has developed a hot-rolled fire-resistant E350 structural steel capable of retaining two-thirds of its room-temperature yield strength at 600°C for up to three hours. The product has received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification under IS 15103. Tata Steel said the grade uses microalloying and microstructural engineering to improve strength retention at elevated temperatures. The steel can be used for structural hollow sections and pre-engineered buildings, supporting applications requiring greater fire resistance and structural safety.

[SMM Steel] Vietnam HRC Prices Rise by USD 9/tonne for Winter Deliveries
[Vietnam] A major Vietnamese steelmaker raised domestic HRC prices by around USD 9/tonne for December and January deliveries. After discounts for orders of 20,000 tonnes or more, offers were equivalent to around USD 543/tonne CIF southern Vietnam. Persistently high coking coal costs are keeping production costs elevated, while improving domestic steel demand and tighter HRC supply from India are providing additional support.
