Northland Power’s 80 MW/160 MWh Jurassic BESS in Alberta has reached commercial operation, making it the province’s largest operating battery storage facility. The project was delivered ahead of schedule and below budget, with no lost-time incidents across nearly 75,000 work hours. A 15-year offtake agreement covers 100% of capacity, providing contracted cash flow while the facility supports grid balancing, congestion relief and further renewable integration.

Ørsted has started construction of the 200 MW Blackwater Solar project in Roosevelt County, its first project in New Mexico. The development is backed by a long-term PPA supporting growing industrial electricity demand, will use US-made First Solar modules and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in late 2027. Annual generation is expected to match the consumption of more than 56,000 homes, while the project should contribute nearly USD 18 million in local property-tax revenue over its operating life, illustrating continued demand for domestically supplied, contracted solar capacity tied to industrial load growth.

Sungrow Renewable Italy has completed the acquisition of two project companies holding utility-scale BESS assets in Veneto and Lombardy, with a combined power rating of 177 MW and an indicative energy capacity of approximately 708 MWh based on four-hour duration. One of the projects is the first battery storage development in Veneto to secure Single Authorization, indicating comparatively advanced permitting status. The transaction expands the company’s Italian storage pipeline and reflects rising acquisition interest in permitted assets as capacity, ancillary-services and renewable-integration needs grow across Europe.
