Platinum and Palladium Rebound After Fed-Driven Declines

Published: Sep 21, 2026 14:36

Reuters reported that spot platinum gained 1.8% to US$1,783.69/oz and palladium rose 1.6% to US$1,289.45/oz on 17 September, after both metals fell following the previous day’s US Federal Reserve rate increase. The reported prices are intraday snapshots, not closing prices.

The rebound coincided with a weaker dollar and easing oil prices across the precious-metals market. The rapid reversal highlights short-term volatility relevant to PGM valuations and hedging; it does not establish a change in mine supply or industrial demand.
