Lead-acid battery enterprises see steady order growth, weekly operating rate continues to rise [SMM lead-acid battery weekly operating rate comment]

According to SMM data, the weekly comprehensive operating rate of lead-acid battery producers across five provinces in China stood at 72.05% during September 11-17, 2026, up 1.65 percentage points WoW.

Since September, lead-acid battery producers have seen steady production growth, with weekly operating rates trending higher. On one hand, seasonal improvement in end-user demand in the lead-acid battery market has driven producers to ramp up production. On the other hand, from August to September, e-bike and automotive battery enterprises widely implemented sales promotions on finished batteries, with some enterprises continuing promotions into early September. Dealer procurement increased, and producers ramped up production to deliver earlier orders. Operating rates at medium and large enterprises gradually rose to 80-100%.

[SMM Flash] Sulphuric acid prices in some regions dropping below 1,000 yuan/mt

Since 10 July, SMM Chinese sulfuric acid price index from Copper smelters has declined for 11 consecutive weeks on a weekly basis. This weekend, sulphuric acid prices were further reduced in some regions, with the ex-works price of 98% smelting acid falling below 1,000 yuan/mt. However, demand from the fertiliser industry has yet to show any clear improvement, and there are no signs that exports of sulphuric acid and phosphate fertiliser can be restarted, leaving the market dominated by a strong wait-and-see sentiment.
