[Energy Storage: Tesla starts Megapack 3 production at Texas gigafactory with 50GWh annual capacity]
Tesla has begun production of its third-generation utility-scale battery system, the Megapack 3, at its Brookshire, Texas facility, which is designed for 50GWh of annual capacity and moved from groundbreaking to operation in roughly 16 months. The Megapack 3 offers around 5MWh of usable capacity per unit with 28% higher energy density than the Megapack 2 XL, and is optimized for discharges of up to eight hours. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026, and at full output the Texas plant alone will exceed the combined capacity of Tesla's Lathrop and Shanghai megafactories.
