[SMM Base Metals Flash] NFC Advances US$478 Million Dairi Lead-Zinc Mine as AMMAN Copper Projects Reach Key Milestones

Published: Aug 31, 2026 12:38
China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co. (NFC) is advancing several major Indonesian nonferrous projects, including the US$478 million Dairi lead-zinc mine in North Sumatra, where development is moving forward following approvals for an updated feasibility study and environmental documentation. The underground Dairi project, operated by PT Dairi Prima Mineral, is designed around approximately 1 million tonnes/year of ore processing capacity, with the Anjing Hitam deposit as the initial development focus. Separately, NFC’s copper projects with PT Amman Mineral Internasional have reached major milestones: AMMAN’s West Sumbawa smelter has completed construction and performance testing, with capacity to process 900,000 tonnes/year of copper concentrate and produce 220,000 tonnes/year of copper cathode, reinforcing Indonesia’s continued expansion of domestic mineral processing capacity.

[SMM Energy Flash] Central Java Sees 55 MW Geothermal Potential at Gunung Ungaran
The Central Java provincial government is pushing the development of geothermal resources at Gunung Ungaran in Semarang Regency, with the area estimated to support around 55 MW of geothermal power capacity. The project remains at the development stage and will be subject to exploration and permitting requirements before commercial development can proceed. The Gunung Ungaran geothermal working area had previously been managed by PLN, while Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources indicated in early 2026 that the 55 MW area would be re-auctioned following the revocation of PLN’s permit. The project forms part of Central Java’s efforts to expand renewable energy utilization and tap the province’s geothermal resources.
