Platinum consolidated today, and the market overall maintained a cautious wait-and-see sentiment, awaiting guidance from the Jackson Hole meeting.
In early trading, the most-traded GFEX platinum contract PT2610 closed at 452.6 yuan/g, down 0.10%; the best offer price for platinum 9995 on the Gold Exchange, and the price spread against the GFEX PT2610 contract, stayed around 3 yuan/g.
Spot market, mainstream quotations for platinum were at a discount of 3.5-2.5 yuan/g against the PT2610 contract. Suppliers’ discount quotations were basically flat versus the previous trading day. Some suppliers chose to sell with slight concessions due to pressure from factory-warehouse warrant cancellations, while some enterprises made small purchases due to demand for cargoes with invoices dated this month. Downstream enterprises remained mostly on the sidelines, with weak consumption. Overall, spot platinum market trading remained sluggish today.
