Panther Metals plc (LON: PALM) announced results on August 17 from the first phase of metallurgical testing at its Dotted Lake project in Ontario, Canada, where leaching tests using Extrakt's patented technology on serpentine-rich ultramafic core achieved a cumulative magnesium recovery of approximately 38%. The tests also confirmed the ore body as a magnesium-rich raw material with associated critical minerals including nickel, cobalt, chromium, and platinum group elements, providing baseline data for subsequent process optimization.
The company stated that this breakthrough advances Dotted Lake from a purely geological opportunity into a strategically significant potential magnesium project, closely aligned with North American policies to secure domestic supply of critical minerals. However, the company also cautioned that the results remain preliminary, and further metallurgical, reproducibility, and techno-economic studies (including reagent management system optimization) are required before progressing to pilot-scale or commercial design. The project is located in Ontario near major transportation infrastructure and the historic Hemlo gold mining district, offering favorable development conditions.
