Magnesium Ingot Transaction Center Shifts Down Slightly, Market May Continue to Consolidate on a Weak Note [SMM Spot Magnesium Ingot Bulletin]

[Magnesium Ingot Transaction Center Moves Down Slightly, Market May Continue to Consolidate on a Weak Note] Today, the spot transaction center moved down slightly, and low-priced supplies emerged. Manufacturers' sentiment toward shipments diverged; downstream buyers in China made just-in-time procurement; outside China, a small number of repeat orders emerged, with relatively large room for negotiation on actual orders. In the short term, magnesium ingots are expected to consolidate on a weak note.

SMM Aug 18 Flash:

Today, mainstream quotations for GB 99.9% magnesium ingot in the Fugu region were 15,900-16,000 yuan/mt, and those for GB 99.8% magnesium ingot in the Fugu region were 15,850-15,950 yuan/mt; China FOB prices were $2,250-2,350/mt.

The magnesium ingot market was in the doldrums today. The transaction center for spot magnesium ingot fell to 15,850 yuan/mt today, and low-priced cargo at 15,800 yuan/mt emerged in the market, with the overall market transaction center edging down. On the supply side, factories had flexible shipment strategies, with shipments at lower prices and holding prices firm amid wait-and-see coexisting. On the demand side, downstream buyers in China mainly restocked for rigid demand, and transaction enthusiasm was insufficient. Outside China, Europe saw a small number of repeat orders, but the volume was relatively small, while FOB quotations remained $2,250-2,350/mt, with large room for negotiation on actual orders, and some traders still chose to wait and see. Recently, the magnesium ingot market repeatedly went through a cyclical pattern of "edge up—pullback—restocking at low levels", and is expected to remain in the doldrums in the short term.

Anhui Magnesium Unveils Lightweight, Recyclable Magnesium Alloy Formwork at World of Concrete Asia Expo
[SMM Magnesium Express]Recently, Anhui Magnesium and Aluminum released a low-density magnesium alloy structural formwork at the World of Concrete Asia Expo. This product weighs only one-third of traditional steel formwork, and is approximately 30% lighter than aluminum alloy formwork of the same size. Furthermore, there is no need for secondary plastering on the wall surface after pouring. Leveraging the full industrial chain advantages of Baowu Magnesium Industry, this formwork can achieve a recycling and reuse rate of over 90%. As the demand for lightweight, green, and low-carbon construction continues to grow, magnesium alloy formwork is poised to become a new growth point in the construction formwork sector.

Magnesium Ingot Quotes Edged Down Slightly; Prices Fell, Volumes Rose, and Transactions Remained Temporarily Stable [SMM Magnesium Ingot Spot Market Flash]
[Magnesium Ingot Quotations Edged Lower, Prices Fell While Volumes Rose and Deals Remained Temporarily Stable] The magnesium ingot market consolidated on a weak note, with mainstream quotations for 99.90% magnesium ingot in the Fugu area at 15,900-16,000 yuan/mt. More low-priced cargoes were available, and the transaction center edged down slightly; FOB was quoted at $2,250-2,350/mt. On the supply side, sellers proactively cut prices amid inventory pressure, while downstream buyers entered the market to restock at an appropriate time. Overall transactions showed a pattern of lower prices and higher volumes, and acceptance of 15,850 yuan/mt was moderate. However, demand remained weak. In markets outside China, affected by high ocean freight rates and exchange-rate fluctuations, firm orders still left room for negotiation, and new orders were scarce. In the short term, it was expected to remain in the doldrums.

Magnesium Ingot Weekly Price Rose, Upstream Support Strong, Downstream Follow-up Insufficient, Upside Room Limited [SMM Magnesium Weekly Data]
[Weekly Magnesium Ingot Prices Rise on Strong Upstream Support; Insufficient Downstream Follow-Through Limits Upside Room] This week, mainstream quotations for magnesium ingot in major producing areas were 15,900-16,000 yuan/mt, up 100 yuan/mt WoW, with FOB prices at $2,250-2,350/mt. This round of magnesium ingot price gains was driven by three factors: supply-side maintenance-related production cuts, cost push from coal and ferrosilicon, and concentrated delivery and restocking by traders. However, after the price increase, downstream fear of high prices emerged and transactions returned to mediocre levels; foreign trade remained weak, constrained by exchange rate fluctuations and the uncertain recovery of summer break orders. Upstream dolomite prices were stable, with sufficient supply from multiple channels; downstream magnesium powder and magnesium alloy prices followed the increase, but demand follow-through was insufficient. Magnesium alloy processing fees remained under pressure due to ample inventory, the impact of non-standard supply sources, high-temperature maintenance at die-casting enterprises, plastic substitution in two-wheelers, and other factors. In the short term, cost support is pitted against weak demand, and magnesium prices continue to move sideways.
