[SMM Silicone Weekly Review: Supply Contraction and Ample Order Scheduling Drive Mild Uptick in Silicone] This week, the price center of China's silicone DMC continued to edge up, with the range quoted at 13,200-13,800 yuan/mt. The industry's joint production schedule expectations, combined with the gradual digestion of low-priced supply in the market, pushed silicone monomer enterprises to raise their offers. On the supply side, some monomer plants underwent maintenance and reduced output this week, leading to a WoW edge down in overall operating rates. Currently, monomer plants have relatively ample order scheduling, with industry pre-sales orders scheduled from late August to early September. Supported by both low inventory levels and full order scheduling, enterprises held prices firm. Overall, the short-term outlook for China's DMC market is expected to continue a mild and gradual rise.

SMM August 20 News:

Cost: On August 20, #421 silicon (used in silicone) in east China averaged 9,550 yuan/mt, up 50 WoW; #421 silicon in east China averaged 9,500 yuan/mt, up 150 WoW. This week, silicon metal prices were firm, with suppliers' quotes rising WoW. Downstream players mostly held a wait-and-see sentiment, with cautious procurement, and the market mainly saw just-in-time transactions. This week, methyl chloride prices were raised, with market average price around 3,100 yuan/mt, and the comprehensive production cost of silicone monomer enterprises rose WoW.

DMC: This week, the price center of China domestic DMC continued to move up, with the quote range at 13,200-13,800 yuan/mt. The joint production schedule expectations combined with the gradual digestion of low-priced supply in the market led to price increases by silicone monomer enterprises. On the supply side, some monomer plants conducted maintenance and reduced loads this week, leading to a slight WoW decline in overall operating rates. Currently, monomer plants have ample order backlogs, with pre-sale orders ranging from late August to early September. Supported by both low inventory levels and full order schedules, enterprises are determined to hold prices firm. Overall, the domestic DMC market is expected to continue a mild and gradual uptrend in the near term.

Silicone oil: This week, the transaction price range of conventional viscosity dimethyl silicone oil reached 14,700-15,500 yuan/mt, with an average price of 15,100 yuan/mt, up WoW. Driven by the cost-side raw material DMC price increase and the market's firm-price sentiment, manufacturers' willingness to hold prices firm strengthened. On the demand side, downstream clients steadily released just-in-time procurement, and silicone oil enterprises' inventory continued destocking.

107 silicone rubber: This week, the market price of conventional viscosity 107 silicone rubber showed an upward trend with firm pricing, ranging from 13,700 to 14,000 yuan/mt. Quotes rose following the cost transmission of DMC, with manufacturers mainly delivering orders. Available-for-sale inventory remained low, and enterprises had strong willingness to hold prices firm. On the demand side, downstream players had ample stockpiling earlier, and currently they mainly consumed their own inventory.

MVQ: This week, the market price of MVQ reached 14,200-14,500 yuan/mt. On the cost side, the price of raw material DMC continued to rise, providing cost support for MVQ, and MVQ quotes followed suit. On the demand side, most enterprises currently mainly made just-in-time procurement for restocking, with cautious purchasing.

This week, monomer enterprises had ample order backlogs, with weak industry operating rates in late August, and the supply-side contraction further strengthened price expectations. Silicone enterprises had firm price-holding sentiment, coupled with a slight uptick in cost-side silicon metal and methyl chloride prices providing support. It is expected that silicone product prices will remain stable with a strengthening trend in the near term, with the center edging up.

[SMM Chromium Flash] China July 2026 HC FeCr Imports Fall 9.9% MoM to ~132,825 t as South Africa Drops Out
China's high carbon ferrochrome (HC FeCr) imports totalled approximately 132,825 tonnes in July 2026, down 9.9% month-on-month from around 147,361 tonnes in June, per Chinese customs data. Kazakhstan retained its position as China's largest HC FeCr supplier in July, shipping approximately 84,429 tonnes, up a marginal 1.2% MoM from June's 83,415 tonnes. With other origins pulling back more sharply, Kazakhstan's share of total imports rose to roughly 63.6%, up from 56.6% in June. Zimbabwe posted the strongest gain among suppliers, with volumes climbing 72.1% MoM to approximately 22,901 tonnes in July from around 13,306 tonnes in June, lifting its import share to roughly 17.2% from 9.0% the previous month. India also grew its share, with shipments up 50.8% MoM to approximately 23,889 tonnes in July from around 15,845 tonnes in June, taking its share of total imports to roughly 18.0% from 10.8%. Imports from other origins fell sharply, down 55.7% MoM to approximately 1,607 tonnes in July from around 3,628 tonnes in June. South Africa recorded no HC FeCr shipments to China in July, a sharp reversal from June's approximately 31,166 tonnes, which had accounted for around 21.2% of that month's total. Overall, July's data shows a rebalancing of China's HC FeCr supply base, with Kazakhstan consolidating its lead while Zimbabwe and India expanded their footholds to help offset South Africa's exit from the month's import mix.

[SMM Chromium Flash] China July 2026 Chrome Ore Imports Down 6.7% MoM to 2.61 Mt, SA and Zimbabwe Volumes Ease
China's chrome ore imports totalled approximately 2.61 million tonnes in July 2026, down 6.7% month-on-month from around 2.79 million tonnes in June, per Chinese customs data. South Africa remained China's dominant chrome ore supplier in July, shipping approximately 2.18 million tonnes, a 3.8% MoM decline from June's 2.26 million tonnes. Despite the drop in absolute volume, South Africa's share of total imports actually rose to around 83.5%, up from 81.0% in June, as the country's decline was proportionally shallower than the other two supply categories. Zimbabwe shipped approximately 243,100 tonnes in July, down 13.6% MoM from around 281,500 tonnes in June, with its share of total imports easing to roughly 9.3% from 10.1% the previous month. Imports from other origins fell the sharpest, down 25.0% MoM to approximately 187,400 tonnes in July from around 249,800 tonnes in June. The broad-based MoM pullback across all supply origins points to a temporary cooling in China's chrome ore restocking pace after a stronger June, though South Africa and Zimbabwe together still accounted for over 92% of total July imports, reaffirming Southern Africa's continued anchor role in China's chrome ore supply chain.

[Aluminum Scrap and Secondary Aluminum Weekly Review: Inventory Buildup from Lower Costs and Off-Season, ADC12 Consolidates on a Subdued Note] China's aluminum scrap market prices this week followed the decline in primary aluminum, showing a pattern of weakness at high levels, but cost support still existed, limiting the downside. On August 20, SMM A00 spot aluminum closed at 23,600 yuan/mt, down 520 yuan/mt from 24,120 yuan/mt last Thursday. Dragged by the decline in primary aluminum prices, aluminum scrap prices...
