[SMM Rare Earth Weekly Review: Rare Earth Market Remains in the Doldrums Overall, Pr-Nd Prices Continue to Pull Back, Magnetic Material Trading Recovers] This week, Pr-Nd oxide prices continued to be in the doldrums. Affected by futures fluctuations, downstream purchase willingness stayed weak, and trading in the Pr-Nd oxide market was still sluggish. Some traders continued to sell at low prices, and market pessimism spread. As of today, Pr-Nd oxide prices dropped further to 713,000-717,000 yuan/mt.

August 13 News:

Rare Earth Ore:

Recently, overall rare earth ore trading remained sluggish, operating rates at separation plants were still low, purchasing interest was relatively weak, and rare earth ore prices continued to pull back slightly. As of today, rare earth carbonate prices were in the range of 58,500-58,700 yuan/mt; monazite prices edged down slightly this week to 41,000-45,000 yuan/mt; medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore prices were around 243,000-245,000 yuan/mt.

Rare Earth Oxides:

For light rare earths, lanthanum oxide prices saw no fluctuations this week, with prices stable at 5,200-5,800 yuan/mt. Cerium oxide market prices also showed no notable fluctuations, remaining stable within 14,300-14,700 yuan/mt this week. This week, Pr-Nd oxide prices continued to be in the doldrums. Affected by fluctuations in futures, downstream purchase willingness remained weak, trading in the Pr-Nd oxide market stayed sluggish, some traders continued to sell at low prices, and market pessimism spread. As of today, Pr-Nd oxide prices were further lowered to 713,000-717,000 yuan/mt.

For medium-heavy rare earths, the dysprosium oxide market saw subdued downstream inquiry activity, but most market participants remained confident about the medium-heavy rare earth market outlook, and offers held firm. This week, dysprosium oxide prices temporarily stabilized at 1.38-1.4 million yuan/mt. For terbium oxide, some suppliers sold small volumes at low prices, but metal plants still faced severe raw material cost losses, making high-price transactions difficult. As of today, terbium oxide market prices were slightly lowered to 6.63-6.65 million yuan/mt. Gadolinium oxide suppliers showed limited willingness to continue selling at lower prices, but downstream metal plants still pushed hard for lower prices in inquiries, and some suppliers sold small volumes at low prices. Actual transaction prices for gadolinium oxide pulled back slightly to 195,000-197,000 yuan/mt. Holmium oxide trading activity was relatively subdued, with suppliers keeping offers firm and prices slightly adjusted to 592,000-595,000 yuan/mt this week. Erbium oxide suppliers maintained relatively firm offers, but actual transactions remained weak. Erbium oxide offers were slightly adjusted to 615,000-625,000 yuan/mt this week. The yttrium oxide market remained relatively stable recently, with no change in actual transactions. 5N yttrium oxide prices were stable at 60,000-63,000 yuan/mt this week, while 3N yttrium oxide prices were raised to 26,000-30,000 yuan/mt due to increased demand in the glass fiber market.

Rare Earth Metals:

For light rare earths, cerium metal prices saw no notable fluctuations this week, with some suppliers keeping offers stable at 29,000-30,000 yuan/mt. Pr-Nd alloy prices continued to be in the doldrums this week. As downstream inquiries did not increase significantly and raw material prices continued to pull back, metal producers continued to lower offers, market trading remained weak, downstream magnetic material enterprises held strong wait-and-see sentiment, and the tug-of-war between upstream and downstream was intense. As of today, supplier offers were adjusted to 870,000-875,000 yuan/mt.

For medium-heavy rare earths, dysprosium-iron alloy closed at 1.34-1.35 million yuan/mt this week, and prices continued to be in the doldrums, mainly affected by persistently sluggish market inquiries. Some suppliers lowered their quotes, but overall trading performance remained weak. Terbium metal prices pulled back to 8.2-8.25 million yuan/mt this week. As market trading sentiment stayed sluggish and oxide prices declined, metal producers lowered their quotes accordingly, and actual transactions were limited. Gadolinium-iron alloy prices were in the doldrums this week. Overall market inquiry performance did not improve, and combined with raw material prices pulling back, suppliers lowered their quotes to 188,000-190,000 yuan/mt, making actual transactions difficult. Holmium-iron alloy prices were stable this week. Although market inquiry activity was limited, supplier quotes remained relatively firm, holding at 595,000-600,000 yuan/mt, while actual transactions remained in the doldrums.

NdFeB Blanks:

Currently, NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) closed at 209~219 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40M closed at 255~265 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40H closed at 259~269 yuan/kg; and NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) closed at 309~329 yuan/kg.

Price side, NdFeB prices declined this week, mainly because raw material prices fell, dragging down NdFeB quotes. Trading side, NdFeB market transaction volumes recovered somewhat this week, mainly because, with the arrival of August, downstream motor plants gradually ended their holidays and operating rates recovered, boosting NdFeB order recovery. Combined with the recent decline in NdFeB prices, some motor plants restocked to meet rigid demand; these factors together promoted the order recovery, and overall market transaction volumes recovered.

NdFeB Scrap:

This week, prices for Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap closed at 730-735 yuan/kg; prices for dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap closed at 1,230-1,250 yuan/kg; and prices for terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap closed at 5,600-5,800 yuan/kg.

This week, scrap market prices overall remained on a continuous downward trend, mainly affected by continued weakness in Pr-Nd oxide futures and spot prices. Recycling enterprises lowered their external purchase quotes accordingly, but scrap suppliers were less willing to sell at low prices. Tax-inclusive scrap circulation in the market remained limited, and the upstream-downstream tug-of-war remained in a stalemate. Mid-week, Pr-Nd oxide remained in the doldrums. Recycling enterprises were less willing to purchase at higher prices. Pr-Nd scrap prices pulled back further, and the stalemate in market trading continued.
