[SMM Daily Review: Lithium Carbonate Spot Price Continued to Rise on August 11]
SMM battery-grade lithium carbonate spot price continued to rise today from the previous trading day. The lithium carbonate 2609 contract opened higher at 146,500 yuan/mt today, shot up to 146,700 yuan/mt shortly after opening to hit the intraday high, then faced bearish selling pressure and pulled back amid consolidation. During the morning session, it moved below the average line, in the doldrums, touching a low of 143,500 yuan/mt. Around midday, bulls and bears seesawed in the 144,000–145,000 yuan area. In the afternoon, bulls gained strength, pushing prices up quickly above the average line. Towards the close, it consolidated narrowly in the 145,800–146,000 yuan range and closed up 1.05% at 145,900 yuan/mt, with open interest decreasing by 17,262 lots.
The spot lithium carbonate market continued its consolidation pattern today. Downstream material plants remained mainly cautious and on the sidelines, their procurement strategies favoring restocking on dips as needed, with some enterprises' psychological purchase level still at or below 140,000 yuan/mt. Upstream lithium chemical plants, affected by concentrated maintenance from July to August, had tight spot-order supply and a firm willingness to hold spot-order prices firm. Overall, market inquiries and actual transactions were relatively sluggish.
