Hyundai Steel make a groundbreaking for its $5.8 billion EAF-based integrated steel mill on September 4th, 2026 in Louisiana. With this facility, the annual capacity will be around 2.8 million tonnes and the commercial operation is to start in 2029. The end user for this steel mill will be Hyundai motor and other automakers across North America.

A steel products worth 216,000 USD is produced by PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk to Canada that will be used for the construction project. This export shows the ability and the strategy used by Indonesia to target more higher value industrial products rather than semi-finished products. In terms of volume, it might be small but it flexes the ability of Indonesia’s steel manufacture.
