UK green hydrogen company Protium has officially inaugurated its second electrolytic hydrogen production facility, Pioneer 2, in Port Talbot, Wales.

With an installed capacity of 2.5MW and fitted with Nel PEM electrolyser systems, the plant can yield up to 1 tonne of green hydrogen per day at full output, 25 times the capacity of the company’s 0.1MW Pioneer 1 project.

Construction of the facility kicked off in November 2025. It delivered first hydrogen production in May 2026 and was officially commissioned on 30 June. Adopting a containerised modular design, the plant produces hydrogen with a purity of over 99.99%, which will be supplied via tube trailers to end customers in the transport, industrial and off-grid power sectors.

Platinum and Palladium Market Price Review and Expectations Brief Comment (July 16, 2026) [SMM Platinum and Palladium Weekly Review]
Platinum and palladium prices drifted higher this week and ended the week higher, driven by expectations of US Fed policy, the US-Iran geopolitical situation, and US CPI data. Looking ahead, inflationary headwinds have eased somewhat, but policy and geopolitical uncertainties remain. In the spot market, traders were active in purchasing due to opportunities in the price spread between futures contracts, while downstream consumption remained weak, and premiums were relatively stable.
