[Solar: Bangladesh announces tax incentives to accelerate solar development]

Published: Jun 19, 2026 14:26
Bangladesh has announced a major policy package to accelerate solar development, including a 0% tax rate for the solar sector until 2035 and a 5% tax rebate on consumers’ solar electricity bill payments. The government will also reduce import duty, regulatory duty, supplementary duty and advance tax to 0% on key solar components, including inverters, lithium cells, lithium-ion batteries, PV modules, mounting structures, BESS, battery management systems, solar DC cables and battery thermal management systems. The policy aims to attract investment and support Bangladesh’s target of meeting 20% of electricity demand from renewables by 2030 and 30%-50% from clean energy by 2050. SMM believes lower taxes and equipment import costs will support utility-scale and distributed solar development, while improving the attractiveness of local renewable energy equipment manufacturing.

Divergence in Wafer Enterprise Inventories, Stalemate in Tug-of-War between Upstream and Downstream in Solar Cell Market [SMM Silicon-Based PV Morning Meeting Minutes]
[SMM Silicon-Based PV Morning Briefing: Wafer Enterprise Inventory Shows Divergence; Solar Cell Market Upstream-Downstream Tug-of-War Stalemate] Wafer: The inventory buildup of wafer enterprises is showing a divergent trend. Inventories of top-tier players have already exceeded reasonable ranges. Demand for bonded zone inventory orders destined for India is marginally weakening, and multiple African countries are emerging as leading export destinations. Solar Cell: The market is dominated by strong wait-and-see sentiment, with neither upstream nor downstream initiating proactive price adjustments, and all orders are negotiated at prevailing prices. Currently, the core fundamentals of high industry inventory and weak downstream procurement demand have not improved. The present stability is merely a short-term stalemate resulting from sluggish Monday trading, and downward pressure on prices remains over the medium and long term.

[SMM PV Flash] National Third Batch of "Desert-Gobi-Wasteland" Base Supporting Project Put into Operation
On July 16, the 500 kV transmission project for the million-kilowatt desert wind-solar-storage base in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, was successfully connected to the Tongliao Jinsha 500 kV substation and officially completed and put into operation. This project is a key supporting transmission line for the third batch of national "desert-Gobi-wasteland" wind and solar power bases. After the project is put into operation, it can fully guarantee the grid connection and consumption of the million-kilowatt-level wind-solar-storage new energy project, delivering approximately 2 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, significantly enhancing the regional power grid's transmission dispatching and resource complementarity and mutual support capabilities, achieving large-scale development, integrated transmission, and efficient utilization of local wind and solar resources, and steadily transforming the advantages of desert resources into advantages of green development.

Recently, AIKO successfully won the bid for Section II of the 1,200 MW PV project at Hongshagang, Minqin County, Wuwei City, part of the Gansu Tengger Desert Hexi New Energy Base of Zhejiang Energy Group, with an awarded bid scale of 677.99 MW. This makes it the largest single-site BC centralized PV project in China so far, adding another strong testament to the competitiveness of AIKO's ABC modules in centralized projects, particularly in desert-Gobi-wasteland large-scale base scenarios.
