[SMM Aluminum Express News] The Indonesian government is firmly advancing its downstreaming agenda as a constitutional mandate to elevate national prosperity. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated this strategy is crucial to break the country's reliance on raw material exports and strengthen its global value chain position.

This commitment is backed by action, with 18 priority projects identified worth over IDR 618 trillion in investment. A central pillar of this plan is the development of the domestic alumina industry. Transforming raw bauxite into refined alumina is a critical step for capturing greater economic value and building a resilient industrial structure.

This comprehensive push, managed by a dedicated national task force, is already generating significant impact, having created over 276,000 new jobs. The government underscores that downstreaming is the definitive path to ensuring Indonesia's natural resources become a source of collective wealth and national sovereignty, moving beyond the "resource curse" towards a future of technology-based industrialization.
