Recycling of key minerals vital for clean energy tech

[SMM New Energy News Flash] India has launched a ₹1,500 crore incentive scheme to boost battery waste and e-waste recycling, aiming to extract critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earths. The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s material supply chain, reduce dependence on imports, and accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Industry leaders, including LOHUM and Attero, view it as a game changer that will spur private investment, innovation, and sustainable capacity-building. Running from FY2025-26 to FY2030-31, the scheme will support both large recyclers and startups, with one-third of funds allocated to smaller players, thereby advancing India’s National Critical Minerals Mission.
