Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 13, Geely Automobile unveiled its next-generation hybrid powertrain technology—NordThor AI Electric Hybrid 2.0—promising significant breakthroughs in fuel efficiency and driving range through the integration of large AI models and advanced energy systems. The latest iteration of Geely's NordThor hybrid family, including the EM-i and EM-P variants, represents a strategic leap in the company's push to redefine the boundaries of intelligent electrification in the automotive sector.

According to Mr. Li Chuanhai, Vice President of Geely Auto Group, the centerpiece of this upgrade is the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 system—an AI-driven power domain agent equipped with a scenario engine and a library of over 1,000 driving scenarios. This enables the vehicle to anticipate road conditions, analyze them intelligently, and make proactive decisions to optimize overall fuel consumption.

Thanks to these AI enhancements, the NordThor AI Electric Hybrid 2.0 system has set a new industry benchmark for mass-produced engine thermal efficiency, raising it from last year's 46.5% to 47.26%. In practical terms, the platform reduces engine maintenance costs and extends service intervals by over 50%, while increasing battery lifespan by 15%.

The NordThor EM-i AI Hybrid will make its debut in the Galaxy A7, set to hit the in the second half of 2025. With AI-optimized control algorithms and upgraded hardware, the Galaxy A7 achieves a fuel consumption of just 2.5L per 100 km in charge-sustaining mode—over 30% lower than conventional hybrid systems—and a total range exceeding 2,100 km, offering users a seamless long-distance travel experience that Geely describes as "a month's commute on a single-tank fuel."

The more advanced NordThor EM-P AI Hybrid system, engineered with a five-source redundant power design (P1, P3, ICE, and dual rear motors), will be first featured on the Galaxy M9 model. It leverages Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 for intelligent all-terrain torque distribution, enabling real-time dynamic torque allocation to prevent wheel slip and ensure optimal handling and safety. It even supports blowout-stable control across various driving conditions.

The Galaxy M9, which debuted earlier this year in Milan, features a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, Geely's dedicated GEA architecture, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds, a combined range over 1,500 km, fuel consumption of 4L/100 km on charging-sustaining mode, and a dual-chamber air suspension system. It also integrates the G-Pilot H5 ADAS system, supporting nationwide travel without geo-fencing.

Beyond the EM-i and EM-P platforms, Geely also introduced a new member of the NordThor powertrain family—NordThor Methanol-Hydrogen E-Fuel. This cutting-edge technology features three world-first innovations, achieving a thermal efficiency of 48.15%, far surpassing traditional gasoline vehicles in both energy efficiency and operating costs. It supports multiple energy modes—methanol, electricity, gasoline, and hybrid—offering flexibility for different usage scenarios. Notably, it can start reliably at -40°C, making it suitable for extreme cold climates.

Mr. Li Chuanhai hailed the NordThor Methanol-Hydrogen E-Fuel as "the most versatile solution in history" and announced that two new models—a sedan and an SUV—equipped with the new-gen"Super Methanol Electric Hybrid" technology will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025.
