Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 10, FAW Toyota officially put its all-new mid-size electric SUV, the bZ5, onto the market, unveiling four initial variants: the 550 JOY, the 550 PRO, the 550 PRO Smart Drive, and the 630 PRO, priced from 129,800 yuan to 159,800 yuan (inclusive of manufacturer incentives).

According to the carmaker, targeting diverse user groups, the bZ5 lineup is built around five core value pillars: all-angle aesthetics, comprehensive safety, all-terrain driving assistance, immersive smart cabin, and full-spectrum QDR assurance—Toyota's quality, durability, and reliability standards.

The entry-level 550 JOY offers a CLTC-rated range of 550 kilometers and a powerful 200 kW electric motor. It features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, instant 5G smartphone connectivity, AI-powered voice control, a 1.44-square-meter panoramic sunroof, and 3,300W V2L (vehicle-to-load) feature. The cabin includes a PM2.5 + CN95 air filtration system, heated and folding side mirrors, keyless entry, high-definition reverse camera with background music integration, and an intelligent safety suite with millimeter-wave radar, ultrasonic sensors, smart cameras, and 10 TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) driver-assistance functions.

The 550 PRO further enhances safety and convenience with a cabin biometric monitoring system capable of detecting passengers left behind—triggering hazard lights and horn alerts within 10 seconds and automatically activating air conditioning and app notifications within 5 minutes.

Upgrades on the 550 PRO include 21-inch wheels, full-width LED positioning lights, multi-layer acoustic windshield glass, and a panoramic sunroof with silver coating and Low-E film. The vehicle also adds rich infotainment features for navigation, entertainment, and productivity. Keyless digital access, facial recognition, and seven additional TSS features—such as PKSB (Parking Support Brake)—strengthen safety. Hardware includes five millimeter-wave radars, six ultrasonic sensors, and four surround-view cameras enabling a PVM (Panoramic View Monitor) system for 360° real-time monitoring.

Building on these three variants, the 630 PRO version offers an extended range of 630 kilometers—80 km more than the others—and adds a power liftgate with memory function for added convenience.

In terms of safety, the bZ5 surpasses industry standards by undergoing 115 rigorous crash test scenarios. All models come equipped with nine SRS airbags. Battery safety is ensured by five layers of protection: an energy-absorbing body structure, non-conductive casing, bottom-mounted integrated cooler, insulated coolant, and multi-level battery monitoring. Redundant systems are also in place for braking, parking, steering, and electronic controls.
