SHANGHAI, May 8 (SMM) -

Silica

Price: Silica prices stabilized. In the southwest China, only a few silicon companies in Sichuan planned to resume production in May. Silica is in preparation for sourcing, and the overall demand for silica has not increased significantly. At present, the ex-factory price of low-grade silica in Yunnan is 350-370 yuan/ton. The ex-factory price of high-grade silica in Inner Mongolia is 400-420 yuan/ton, and the average price has been reduced by 5 yuan/ton. The ex-factory price of high-grade silica from Hubei is 420-480 yuan/ton. The ex-factory price of high-grade silica from Guizhou is between 300-340 yuan/ton.

Output: Silica is mostly mined normally, and there is no obvious gap in supply at present.

Inventory: The silica raw material inventory of some small silicon companies in the Northwest region has been basically consumed, and there are maintenance plans. Most silicon companies in the southwest China have not yet replenished their silica raw material inventory.

Industrial silicon

Price: After the Labour Day holiday, the price of low-grade silicon and recycled silicon rose slightly to around 100 yuan/ton. Downstream users were cautious in purchasing. In addition, as the flood season was approaching, the market was not bullish. The spot price of industrial silicon moved sideways.

Output: Xinjiang's leading companies continued to increase their operating rates. Sichuan is in the normal water period and a small amount of production has resumed, and the supply of industrial silicon has an increasing trend.

Inventory: Industrial silicon stocks across China’s three major markets stood at 364,000 mt as of April 26, a drop of 3,000 mt from a week ago. Among them, there were 106,000 tons in ordinary social warehouses, a decrease of 1,000 tons from the previous week; and 258,000 tons in social delivery warehouses (including the part that has not been registered as warehouse receipts), a decrease of 2,000 tons from the previous week.

Silicone

Price

DMC: The current quotation is 13,200 yuan/ton-13,700 yuan/ton, and the price fell this week.

D4: The current quotation is 14,300 yuan/ton-14,500 yuan/ton, and the price stabilized this week.

107 silicone rubber: The current quotation is 13,700 yuan/ton-14,300 yuan/ton, and the price fell this week.

Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (MVQ): The current quoted price is 13,900 yuan/ton-15,000 yuan/ton, and the price fell this week.

Silicone oil: The current quoted price is 14,800 yuan/ton-15,600 yuan/ton, and the price fell this week.

Production: Supply increased slightly this week, domestic plant load increased slightly, and supply performed better.

Inventory levels continued to rise this week, and downstream companies' willingness to purchase products after price cuts remained low. The inventory of domestic enterprises exceeded 100,000 tons.

Polysilicon

Price

Yesterday, the mainstream prices of polysilicon N-type materials and dense polysilicon fell to 41-48 yuan/kg and 37-42 yuan/kg respectively.

Output

The production of polysilicon manufacturers remained normal, but several old production lines will be overhauled in May, and the production in May is expected to remain at around 180,000 tons.

Inventory

Currently, the downstream market adopted a strategy of purchasing in multiple batches and in small quantities. Crystal pulling factories strove to keep raw material inventories at a low level, and polysilicon inventories continued to rise.

Silicon wafer

Price

Silicon wafer: The mainstream transaction prices of monocrystalline silicon wafer M10 and G12 were 1.53-1.65 yuan/piece and 2.1-2.2 yuan/piece respectively this week. The transaction prices of N-type silicon wafer 182mm fell to 1.35-1.6 yuan/piece. Silicon wafer prices were largely stable. A top-tier plant was expected to adjust prices.

Output

Silicon wafer production is expected to continue to decline in May, with the operating rate of many silicon wafer companies falling to around 50%, and total output is expected to continue to decline

Inventory

Currently, downstream purchasing enthusiasm is limited and there is no obvious destocking effect.

High purity quartz sand

Price

The price of high-purity quartz sand fell this week. The domestic price of inner layer sand is 170,000-230,000 yuan/ton, the price of middle layer sand is 100,000-130,000 yuan/ton, and the price of outer layer sand is 24,000-80,000 yuan/ton. In order to destock and receive orders, the domestic price of quartz sand fell slightly again.

Output

The domestic supply of high-purity quartz sand has been relatively stable recently, while the import volume of ore and sand from overseas continued to increase.

Inventory

In terms of inventory, quartz sand market transactions recovered slightly this week, some downstream companies began to purchase in small quantities, and inventory decreased slightly.

[SMM PV News] Polish Firm ELQ Announces €2.5 Billion Renewable Investment in Ukraine
ELQ has announced an investment of up to €2.5 billion to build up to 2 GW of new energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Supported by US and Arab partners, construction of the initial installations will begin in Q2 2026. Sołtysiak stated the company refuses to wait for the war to end, aiming to actively participate in the first phase of rebuilding Ukraine's heavily damaged power grid. The initiative aligns with broader recovery efforts, including a February 2026 World Bank estimate placing Ukraine's decade-long reconstruction costs at $588 billion, and a July 2025 EBRD mechanism to mobilize €1.5 billion for new renewables. Through its newly registered subsidiary, ELQ UKRAINE, the firm plans to supply autonomous energy to critical social infrastructure like schools and hospitals.

[SMM PV News] 'SMA Solar' Reports Slight Revenue Decline and Widening Losses for Fiscal Year 2025
'SMA Solar Technology AG' confirmed its preliminary fiscal year 2025 results, reporting a 0.9% year-on-year revenue decline to €1.516 billion and widening losses amid difficult market conditions. Including one-off effects, 'EBITDA' fell to a negative €65.4 million, while 'EBIT' losses more than doubled to negative €188.2 million. The downturn was heavily driven by the 'Home & Business Solutions' segment, which suffered from €122.6 million in inventory writedowns, falling prices, and weak demand. In contrast, the 'Large Scale & Project Solutions' division saw revenue grow nearly 8% to €1.268 billion, recording a profit of €210.8 million. Looking ahead, 'SMA' confirmed its 2026 guidance, projecting revenue between €1.475 billion and €1.675 billion.

[SMM PV News] Austria's Solar Market Slows Down with 1.6 GW Added in 2025
New figures from Austria's energy regulator, 'E-Control', reveal the country installed 1,634 MW of new 'PV' capacity in 2025, a 22% decline from 2024, bringing its cumulative capacity to 9.9 GW. 'PV Austria' warned that annual additions must consistently hit 2 GW to reach the nation's 100% renewable electricity goal by 2030. Industry experts blame the slowdown on the government's early abolition of the 'VAT' exemption for small rooftop systems, 'stop-and-go' funding policies, and grid expansion delays. To revive the market, installers are urgently calling for streamlined storage regulations, proportionate fire safety rules, and dynamic grid fees to support a combined solar-plus-storage approach.
