According to foreign news on September 1, the Peruvian National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI) announced that compared with the same period in 2022, the domestic mining and hydrocarbons industry expanded by 11.38% in July 2023.
In a press release, INEI said the expansion was a result of the positive performance of the domestic metal mining sector, which grew by 13.35% in July 2023. This was mainly driven by a 2.47% increase in molybdenum production, an 18.1% increase in copper production and an 8.6% increase in zinc production.
INEI added that Peru's hydrocarbon subsector shrank by 1.64% in July 2023, due to a 13.8% decline in LNG production and a 7.2% decline in crude oil production. Natural gas production rose by 26%.
