Chile Calls Emergency Talks as Heavy Rain Threatens Key Copper Regions

Published: Jul 15, 2026 09:44
Chile has convened emergency talks with mining companies including Codelco, Antofagasta and Teck to assess the potential impact of a powerful winter storm on key copper-producing regions. Mining regulator Sernageomin has activated its crisis committee to monitor landslide, mudslide and transport disruption risks. Prolonged heavy rainfall could affect mine operations, roads, ports and copper concentrate shipments, although the actual impact will depend on whether the storm extends farther north into the country's main mining districts.
