SHFE Nickel Closes Lower (2017-2-21)

SHFE 1705 nickel opened at RMB 92,290/mt and ended RMB 91,510/mt.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 21 (SMM) – On Tuesday, SHFE 1705 nickel opened at RMB 92,290/mt and then fluctuated narrowly. The contract later advanced to RMB 92,550/mt and dived slightly after touching upper Bollinger brand. During the afternoon trading, SHF 1705 nickel fluctuated at lows, down as low as RMB 91,160/mt, and ended RMB 91,510/mt. Positions and trading volume both dropped on Tuesday and SHF 1705 nickel stopped 3-day rise.

SHFE 1705 nickel will remain weak on Tuesday’s night trading but will increase in a long term with tight nickel ore supply.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
