This week's progress in recycling events is as follows:

[The advanced ESS power battery project in Xi'an, Shaanxi, is nearing completion] Recently, the 3.5GWh/year advanced ESS power battery industrial demonstration project of Shaanxi Coal Research Institute's Qingke Energy Company has achieved new progress. The first batch of 314Ah large-capacity battery cells from the 320Ah battery production line has officially rolled off the line. Other project milestones are progressing as planned, and the overall project is expected to be completed in June, with comprehensive completion acceptance to be finished before the end of the year. At the end of Q1, the 320Ah production line passed the trial production condition acceptance of Shaanxi Coal Group, and the first batch of 314Ah large-capacity battery cells officially rolled off the line, successfully breaking through the bottleneck of achieving consistent large-scale production of large-capacity battery cells.

[A 30,000-mt lithium battery recycling project lands in Yunnan] It is understood that the project will rent the existing standard factory building of Yunnan Shixian Motor Vehicle Scrap Co., Ltd. for the comprehensive recycling and utilization of scrap lithium batteries. The project plant covers an area of 3,896.41m2, with a building area of 3,896.41m2. This project plans to set up three processing lines, and upon completion, it will have an annual recycling and processing capacity of 30,000 mt of scrap lithium batteries.

[Jiangsu's 20GWh ESS lithium battery manufacturing project is in the final stages of construction] Recently, new developments have emerged from the construction site of Jiangsu Jieyuan's 20GWh ESS lithium battery manufacturing project. It is understood that the total investment in the Jiangsu Jieyuan 20GWh ESS lithium battery manufacturing project is 5 billion yuan, with an initial investment of 3 billion yuan and a planned capacity of 10GWh. The project is divided into two phases of construction. Currently, all pile foundation works for the first phase have been completed. The No. 1 factory building under construction is expected to be completed by the end of May and put into operation by the end of June. It is expected that all projects in the first phase will be completed around the second half of 2026.

[New progress in Zhejiang's recycling project] Recently, the Ecology and Environment Bureau of Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, issued an announcement regarding the approval of the environmental impact report for the construction project of Zhejiang Huayou Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., which involves the physical recycling and reuse of 5,000 mt of lithium battery scrap annually. It is understood that the project investment is 36.89 million yuan, including 31.89 million yuan in fixed asset investment and 5 million yuan in working capital. The production site is a leased 3,000㎡ battery comprehensive utilization plant of Quzhou Huayou Cobalt New Materials Co., Ltd. A battery disassembly line and a cathode material repair line will be constructed, forming a production scale capable of processing 5,000 mt of lithium battery scrap annually to produce 97.5 mt of battery cells and 3,740 mt of LFP cathode materials.

[A 400,000-mt new energy end-of-life battery project lands in Huangzhou, Hubei] According to "Huanggang Release," on May 8, the signing ceremony for the Jinsheng New Energy end-of-life battery comprehensive utilization project was held in Huangzhou, Huanggang, Hubei. With an investment exceeding 10 billion yuan, upon completion, the project will have an annual processing capacity of 400,000 mt of end-of-life batteries, enabling the efficient recycling and reuse of strategic new energy resources such as lithium, phosphorus, and iron.

[A new energy vehicle scrap lithium battery project lands in Anqing, Anhui] Recently, the Huaining County Ecology and Environment Bureau of Anqing City, Anhui Province, issued a pre-approval announcement for the "Environmental Impact Report for the Annual Recycling and Crushing of 11,000 mt of New Energy Vehicle Scrap Lithium Batteries Project by Anhui Lichun Solid Waste Disposal Co., Ltd.," which has attracted industry attention.Upon completion, it will have the capacity to annually recycle and crush 11,000 mt of scrap lithium batteries, including the annual recycling and disposal of 6,000 mt of scrap LFP battery packs, 3,000 mt of scrap ternary lithium battery packs, 1,000 mt of positive pole pieces from scrap LFP batteries, and 1,000 mt of negative pole pieces from scrap LFP batteries.

[Shandong's 100,000-set Cascade Utilization Project for Retired Lithium Power Battery Packs is Here] Recently, the Liaocheng Ecological Environment Bureau of Shandong Province issued a public notice on accepting the environmental impact assessment documents for the cascade utilization project of power battery recycling in the Liaocheng High-tech Zone. This move has injected new momentum into the development of the local power battery recycling and utilization industry. Upon completion, the project will have the capacity to annually process 100,000 sets of retired vehicle-mounted lithium power battery packs.

[Yunnan's 30,000-mt Scrap Lithium Battery Project Lands] Recently, the People's Government of Lufeng City, Yunnan Province, issued the first public notice on public participation in the environmental impact assessment for the "30,000-mt Annual Recycling and Processing Project of Scrap Lithium Batteries by Yunnan Shezi Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.", which has attracted widespread attention from the industry. Upon completion, it will have the capacity to annually recycle and process 30,000 mt of scrap lithium batteries.

【SMM Flash News】PT WBN to Halt Ore Operations in May Amid RKAB Quota Squeeze; NPI Production Unaffected
Despite a strong Q1 performance with external ore sales reaching 8.3 Mwmt (+54% YoY), PT WBN (Weda Bay Nickel) is set to place its mining operations under "Care and Maintenance" in May 2026. This suspension follows a drastic 70% reduction in its 2026 RKAB quota (initially granted at 12 Mwmt versus 42 Mwmt in 2025). While limonite sales surged 2.2x to 3.6 Mwmt due to high HPAL demand at IWIP, the current authorized volumes fall far short of the park's estimated 100 Mwmt annual requirement. Although a revision request for a higher quota is currently under review by Indonesian authorities, the mine will suspend commercial operations with IWIP until approval is granted. Notably, PT WBN’s NPI plant will continue normal operations by drawing from existing ore stockpiles.
