Investing 50 billion! Sunwoda Plans to Establish the Largest Battery Production Site in Thailand!

Published: Mar 14, 2025 14:52

On March 13, Mr. Narit, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai chaired a meeting of the Policy Committee on Enhancing the Competitiveness of National Target Industries on the same day. The meeting approved the investment application of SUNWODA AUTOMOTIVE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY (THAILAND), a subsidiary of Sunwoda, a Chinese company and one of the world's top 10 manufacturers of EV batteries and energy storage systems, to establish Sunwoda Group's largest overseas battery cell production site in Thailand, with an investment exceeding 50 billion Thai baht.

He stated that the company would establish two factories in Chonburi Province, employing over 4,000 Thai staff, including 900 Thai engineers and researchers. The production lines are expected to be put into use within this year.

Additionally, the company is considering launching battery recycling operations in Thailand, aiming to improve the supply chain for EV usage and support battery aging management for future EV users.

Sunwoda's significant layout in Thailand not only marks its further expansion in the global EV battery and energy storage system sector but also demonstrates a profound insight into and active response to the future development trends of the global new energy industry. From June 16-17, 2025, Tony, General Manager of SEVB (Thailand) Co., Ltd., will participate in the 2025 SMM 2nd Southeast Asia Automotive Supply Chain Conference organized by SMM in Bangkok, Thailand.
