Century Aluminum Upgrades Casting Equipment in South Carolina Smelter

Century Aluminum is a major global aluminum producer, operating multiple aluminum plants in the US and Iceland. Recently, it upgraded its aluminum casting equipment at the smelter in South Carolina, which, with advanced facilities, can process approximately 230,000 mt of aluminum annually, providing standard-grade alloy casting ingots, extrusion billets, and other products.

The new Siemens control system is fully operational, reducing cooling time by half and increasing daily processing capacity by 300,000 pounds. The cooling pool conveyor belt motor operates more efficiently in standard mode, saving energy. The 150-horsepower drive enhances operational flexibility and can be reused at the Mt. Holly aluminum plant, where the standard configuration is a 75-horsepower motor, providing additional power advantages.
