On February 6, Norwegian silane and polysilicon producer REC Silicon ASA (REC Silicon) released its Q4 2024 performance report.

The report showed that REC Silicon's Q4 2024 revenue from continuing operations was $29.7 million, compared to $32.8 million in Q3 2024. The company also reported an EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) loss from continuing operations of $5.3 million, compared to an EBITDA loss of $6.4 million in the previous quarter. Due to the company's discontinuation of its solar materials division, the Q3 EBITDA figures have been restated. The EBITDA for total operations in the quarter was -$56.5 million, compared to -$42.7 million in the previous quarter.

It was noted that the total polysilicon sales volume in Q4 was 377 mt, all related to fulfilling supply obligations following the decision in February 2024 to cease polysilicon production at the Butte plant; in Q3, REC Silicon's total polysilicon sales volume was 169 mt.

Notably, in January 2025, REC Silicon announced the cessation of production at its Moses Lake plant in Washington State, marking the end of the company's polysilicon operations in the US. Previously, REC Silicon had already shut down its polysilicon production facility in Montana earlier in 2024.

REC Silicon stated that while polysilicon production at the Moses Lake plant would cease, the related silane gas production equipment would be maintained in a "safe and recoverable state" at minimal temporary costs to keep the equipment ready for potential restart. This move aims to align with future market demand for silicon anodes or other gases, as the company's current business center has shifted to the silane gas sector.
