GAC AION joins Thailand Charging Consortium

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 4, GAC AION announced that it has officially joined the Thailand Charging Consortium. This alliance, organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand ("EVAT"), includes 18 charging station operators working together to build an efficient energy replenishment network and promote the development of Thailand's new energy vehicle industry.

Amid the electrification transformation, Thailand has set a goal to vigorously promote the development of electric vehicles by 2035. However, with the explosive growth in sales and usage of new energy electric vehicles in Thailand, issues such as insufficient charging stations, low energy replenishment efficiency, and unreasonable charging station network layouts have become apparent.

In response, GAC AION is collaborating with its subsidiary, GAC Energy, and numerous ecosystem partners to build a comprehensive energy replenishment ecosystem in Thailand. According to its plan, by 2024, GAC AION aims to establish 25 electric vehicle charging stations in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, and by 2028, it plan to build a network of 200 charging stations with 1,000 supercharging points across 100 cities in Thailand.

Since officially entering the Thai market in September last year, GAC AION has been steadily deepening its presence in Thailand. On the evening of May 7, GAC AION announced a significant milestone in its local production in Thailand with the signing of an agreement for its factory in the 185 Bonded Zone. On May 14, GAC Energy Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was officially registered in Bangkok, focusing on the new energy vehicle charging business, including charging station operations, the import and export of charging piles, energy storage and photovoltaic products, and home charging pile installation services.

On May 25 of 2024, Khon Kaen International Airport in Thailand held a delivery ceremony for 200 AION ES taxis (the first batch of 50 units). This follows GAC AION's delivery of 500 AION ES units to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport in February this year. Reportedly, the AION ES fully meets the requirements of Airports of Thailand (AOT), and it is expected that 1,000 oil-fueled taxis will be replaced locally by the end of the year.

Additionally, GAC AION is investing in its first overseas factory in Thailand—the Thailand Intelligent Eco-factory, which is nearing completion and will soon commence production. The first global strategic model of GAC AION, the second-generation AION V, will also roll off the production line at this factory.
