SHANGHAI, Apr 19 (SMM) - The production costs of high-carbon ferrochrome fell slightly in March. As of April 10, the real-time costs of raw materials in Inner Mongolia were 8,929 yuan/mt (Cr50%), down 198 yuan/mt (Cr50%) or 2% MoM.
Coke prices fell at the end of March, with the prices of secondary-grade metallurgical coke losing 50-100 yuan/mt.
Power tariffs in south China fluctuated little, while those in western Mongolia dipped to 0.45 yuan/kWh.
Chrome ore prices fell due to declines in stainless steel mills’ April bid prices of high-carbon ferrochrome and output cuts by ferrochrome plants, but low inventories limited its downside room.
As high-carbon ferrochrome prices fell more sharply than costs, producers still struggled in loss-making territory.
