Industrial Silicon Output in March Increased MoM

SHANGHAI, Apr 18 (SMM) - SMM data shows that China's industrial silicon output was 262,000 mt in March, an increase of 9.1% month-on-month and 29.5% year-on-year. The output totalled 749,700 mt from January to March, an increase of 18.55% on the year.

The overhaul in Xinjiang and Fujian decreased the output slightly. In southwest China, the operating rates of furnaces in silicon factories in Sichuan and Yunnan Nujiang increased. What’s more, silicon factories in Hunan, Guizhou and other places resumed production one after another, contributing to the main increase in industrial silicon output in March.

In April, some silicon factories in Inner Mongolia were shut down for overhaul, besides, the number of silicon factories resumed production after Sichuan entered the normal rainfall period rose. In addition, factories in Nujiang continued to increase their production capacity. Therefore, the output in April will rise to around 280,000 mt.

Silicon (Si content ≤ 97%) and secondary silicon:

According to SMM survey, China's silicon (si content ≤ 97%) output stood at 23,400 mt in March, up by 4,000 mt or 21.2% from the previous month but down by 6% YoY.

The total output of secondary silicon in China was 10,400 mt in March, an increase of 1,600 mt or 18.2% from the previous month.

Polysilicon:

SMM data shows that China's polysilicon output was 54,500 mt in March, an increase of 7.9% month-on-month and 51.2% year-on-year. The MoM increase in output in March was contributed by the increase in production days in March and the ramp-up of new capacity in Sichuan.

In April, the output of two silicon factories in Sichuan and Xinjiang will decline slightly due to small-scale maintenance. In addition, a total of 60,000 mt of production capacity of Asia Silicon, Xinte and CSG is ramping up, while the release of new capacity is slightly slower than expected. The total output in China is going to reach 56,000 mt in April, a slight increase from the previous month.
