SHANGHAI, Dec 8 (SMM) - Toyota Motor Corp, the world's largest traditional automaker, said on Tuesday that they are happy to use scratched or defective parts from suppliers. The company is trying to cut costs amid the shortage of chips and rising material costs.

Toyota Motor is famous for its strict quality control, which has always put the pursuit of "perfection" above "speed".

Shiga and other engineers are meeting with parts suppliers to discuss the feasibility of accepting scratched or defective parts. Their requirement is that the safety and performance of the car will not be affected, and the defects are unlikely to be noticed by car buyers. He added that the number of rejected parts has been reduced by three-quarters after visiting a company that produces plastic seat belt components. Driven by favourable exchange rates, Toyota last month raised its operating profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31 by 12%. However, the company warned that semiconductor shortages have inhibited production and ramped up costs, impacting its potential profitability.
