SMM9: at the 2020 (2nd) China Industry Expo New Materials Forum-China Automotive New Materials Application Summit and China (8th) Aluminum processing Industry chain supply and demand Trade Summit held by SMM, Tan Zhanqiu, an associate researcher at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, discussed the theme of high modulus and high toughness carbon nanotubes / aluminum alloy composites for structural lightweight. It is introduced and analyzed from four aspects: research background, prototype of laminated metallurgy / bionic composite technology, development of engineering preparation and processing technology and application verification and prospect of structure lightweight.

He said that lightweight structure, high modulus, high strength, high thermal conductivity, low expansion, damping, heat and wear resistance, radiation shielding and other contents are the main research background of composites.

The development of engineering preparation and processing technology includes extrusion deformation, forging, rolling and so on. Carbon nanotube composite reinforced ZXXX, 6XXX, 7XXX aluminum alloy profiles, the strength and modulus are increased by more than 20% and 15% respectively, while maintaining considerable plasticity, it is an ideal high modulus and high strength aluminum alloy material.
