Falling Scrap Battery Prices Push up Profits for China Secondary Lead Producers

SHANGHAI, Nov. 6 (SMM) – Chinese secondary lead producers reported improving profits in this past week thanks to scrap battery price declines, SMM learnt.

Scrap automobile battery (white shell) and scrap motive battery average price fell 30 yuan per tonne and 50 yuan per tonne respectively from last week, cutting smelting costs by 50-80 yuan per tonne.

At present, lots of disqualified secondary lead smelters shut down, leaving scrap battery supply ample. This drives down scrap battery prices.
