SHANGHAI, Aug. 11 (SMM) – Outbound shipment of ferronickel from South Korea surged to 18,957 tonnes during the first half of 2015, a record high.
The surge in ferronickel exports, which were only 47 tonnes during the same period of 2014, was mainly driven by capacity expansion at SNNC, a joint venture of POSCO and La Société Minière du Sud Pacifique (SMSP).
To reduce inventories, the company exported its products to its branches of POSCO in China.
During the same period, demand of nickel ore also waned in the country with demand falling.
