[SMM Energy Flash] Trianel Borkum I Enters German Balancing Market with 70 MW
Germany’s Trianel Windpark Borkum I has prequalified around 70 MW of capacity for the country’s balancing energy market and has been providing negative secondary balancing reserve since July 2026, with marketing starting on July 22. Under the mechanism, the offshore wind farm can automatically reduce generation within five minutes when requested by transmission system operators, helping maintain grid frequency at 50 Hz while creating an additional revenue stream alongside electricity sales and PPAs.
