[SMM Daily HRC Trading] On May 28, the combined daily trading volume of HRC from sample enterprises in SMM's four cities (Shanghai, Lecong, Tianjin, Ningbo) totaled 14,090 mt, up 1,360 mt DoD (+10.7%), up 31.81% YoY (solar calendar), and up 20.02% YoY (lunar calendar).

[Saudi Arabia] Saudi major mills' domestic rebar prices have risen to 780 USD/tonne, though trading activity has been light this week due to the Eid al-Adha holiday. On the cost side, recent increases in Saudi scrap prices are providing some support to the long steel market. On the import front, steel orders from China to the Middle East have gradually resumed recently, though volumes are still down about 80% compared to the same period in 2025. Destinations mainly include Saudi Arabia's Jeddah port and Oman's Sohar port, with freight rates at around 55 USD/tonne. After discharge, cargo is typically trucked overland to inland destinations.

[SMM Steel] Japan’s Ferrous Scrap Exports Decline Nearly 10% in Jan-Apr 2026
[SMM Steel] Japan exported 2.35 million mt of ferrous scrap in January-April 2026, down 9.9% year on year, while April exports fell 10.1% YoY to 667,678 mt. Vietnam remained the largest importer of Japanese scrap during the period, importing 1.02 million mt, down 10.1% YoY. Bangladesh imported 516,219 mt, up 22.3%, while South Korea imported 350,019 mt, down 17.9% YoY. Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Thailand more than doubled to 173,869 mt during the four-month period.

Market participants noted the coastal location is expected to strengthen raw material access, logistics efficiency, and export competitiveness through improved port connectivity.
