On May 25, the SMM battery-grade nickel sulphate average price remained stable.

On May 25, the SMM battery-grade nickel sulphate average price remained stable.

Cost side, nickel prices remained under macro pressure and were in the doldrums recently, and the spot production cost of nickel sulphate held steady. Supply side, nickel prices, MHP payables, and auxiliary material prices such as sulphuric acid stayed high, and nickel salt smelter offers remained elevated. Demand side, as month-end approached, some downstream enterprises began stockpiling nickel sulphate for June, but as nickel prices continued to decline, their acceptance of nickel salt prices decreased. Today, the upstream nickel salt smelter Willingness to Sell Sentiment Factor was 2, the downstream precursor plant procurement sentiment factor was 2.7, and the integrated enterprise sentiment factor was 2.4 (historical data can be accessed by logging into the database).

Looking ahead, as it is currently the monthly procurement period, nickel sulphate prices are expected to hold up well in the short term, and subsequent attention should be paid to the cost support from nickel prices and intermediate products.

[SMM Nickel Market Flash] Indonesia-Philippines Nickel Link Targets Ore Supply and Downstream Integration
One of the core objectives of the Indonesia-Philippines nickel corridor is to better connect Philippine ore resources with Indonesia’s downstream processing capacity. The report said the arrangement could strengthen feedstock security for Indonesia’s expanding HPAL and refining system, while giving the Philippines a faster route to benefit from higher-value regional exports through Indonesia’s processing hub. The initiative is also seen as a signal that Southeast Asia is seeking stronger bargaining power in the global nickel and EV battery supply chain.

Western Mines Group said hole MTD031 at the Mulga Tank Project also returned several higher-grade nickel intersections, including 6 m at 1.02% nickel from 259 m and 8 m at 0.81% nickel from 298 m. These intervals were also associated with elevated cobalt, copper, and platinum-palladium values. The results suggest deeper enriched zones may remain open and could support further delineation of higher-grade mineralisation.
