[Solar PV: Colombia Issues Resolution 40208 to Incentivize Renewable and Storage Integration]
The Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy has issued Resolution 40208, establishing a long-term electricity contracting mechanism designed to mitigate demand risk and integrate renewable energy and storage capacity. The scheme involves 15-year contracts, with awards required by July 31, 2026, and delivery starting on January 1, 2030. The framework introduces four specific product categories: 24-hour supply, solar-only (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), hybrid blocks, and peak-demand supply (6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), the latter serving as a direct signal for battery energy storage systems. This initiative marks a major step in reopening Colombia's long-term procurement market, aiming to address projected demand gaps while supporting the country's existing 1.59 GW of installed PV capacity.
