[SMM PV News] Germany's 2025 Grid: Solar Hits Record 70 TWh

Published: Mar 10, 2026 09:10
Germany fed 438.2 TWh into its public grid in 2025. While solar generation surged 17.4% to a record 70.1 TWh (nearly tying with natural gas), overall renewable output dipped slightly, reducing its grid share to 58.6%. Wind remained the top energy source despite a 3.6% drop to 131.3 TWh. Conversely, fossil fuel generation increased to a 41.4% share, largely driven by a 10.2% jump in gas-fired output. Germany also narrowed its net electricity import surplus to 19.4 TWh.

[SMM PV News] Japan Awards 79 MW in 27th Solar Auction; Average Price at JPY 4.61/kWh
Japan's 'Green Investment Promotion Organization' has concluded its 27th utility-scale solar auction, awarding 79 MW across 11 projects against an expected 196 MW. The selected PV facilities range from 72 kW to 29.9 MW. The final average price settled at JPY 4.61/kWh, well below the JPY 8.68/kWh ceiling. Notably, the lowest bid was JPY 0.0/kWh for a 400 kW project, which likely already secured a private corporate power purchase agreement ('PPA') and utilized the auction merely to secure grid connection. This procurement follows the 26th round, which allocated 75.3 MW.

[SMM PV News] Indonesia-Singapore Solar Export Snagged by 'Unbankable' 5-Year Permit Rule
Indonesia's planned solar energy exports from Batam to Singapore are stalled due to financing hurdles. Developers aim to deliver up to 3.4 GW by 2028 but struggle to secure bank loans because an Indonesian regulation requires export permits to be renewed every five years. This clashes with the 20-25 year certainty that financiers demand, rendering the massive projects 'unbankable'.
