[SMM News: Permag Expands US Magnet Manufacturing] US-based Permag has launched a major multi-million-dollar initiative aimed at doubling the capacity of its samarium-cobalt plant in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The expansion includes state-of-the-art alloying, pressing, and manufacturing equipment, which will significantly enhance supply capability for customers relying on Permag and its subsidiaries, Dexter Magnetic Technologies and Magnetic Component Engineering (MCE). Permag’s core objective is to substantially increase domestic production of samarium-cobalt magnets, supporting US priorities through concrete actions, strengthening the domestic supply chain, and meeting rising commercial demand. As the only vertically integrated supplier of samarium-cobalt magnets and magnetic assemblies, this investment will further solidify Permag’s ability to deliver exceptional solutions to its customers. This expansion comes at a critical time when the US is focused on reducing foreign dependence on key minerals and technologies vital to defense readiness and advanced manufacturing—a supply chain gap that companies like Permag are helping to address.
